Life After Kids 2/24/11 Teri Thompson & Jen Friel

Life After Kids is thrilled to welcome, a true social media expert and longtime friend of mine, Teri Thompson, who co-authored  (with Beverly Macy) the recent release ,”The Power of Real-Time Social Media Marketing.”

Teri and I met when we both worked in broadcast television in the creative advertising and promotion departments of the major TV networks.  In fact, we worked together several times during our 20 plus year careers in that business and I know her to be a fabulous colleague and wonderful friend.

A few years ago, like many of us, Teri had to “re-invent” herself in order to stay employable in this downsized economy and her story of what she’s doing now is an inspiring testament to the power of reinvention at any stage of life

Then,  Jen Friel, from the very popular blog and soon to be major television series Talk Nerdy to Me Lover will be dropping in to discuss her year of homelessness, the power of faith, and our exciting plans for this coming Sunday covering the Oscar red-carpet at “The Night of 100 Stars” (the official 2011 Academy Awards viewing party at the Beverly Hills Hotel), with fellow vlogger, Zennie Abraham of Zennie62.com.

If you don’t know who Jen is, you must find out! This amazing young woman with a bright personality and infectious laugh to match, is wise beyond her years.  And, even though she is far from entering mid-life or a life with or without kids, you’ll be inspired by her stories of reinvention!  Plus, you must hear  about her 30 day “BJ” diet…I guarantee it’s a story  you won’t want to miss.

So catch this all on Thursday at 8p ET/5p PT, February 28th on MingleMediaTV and if you miss the live webcast I will be posting the show later for your viewing pleasure.

Blog World Expo 2010

This year’s Blog World Expo was bigger, bolder and better than ever. From the speakers to the sponsors, everyone and everything was first class all the way. I am not the only one who thought this way, most of my fellow attendees I spoke with agreed that the panels were insightful, the keynote speakers entertaining and informative and the parties, after parties and after-after parties were spectacular! I will be adding many more posts and videos over the coming days with names, details,  and photos! Sorry folks, what happened in Vegas isn’t going to stay in Vegas – it’s gonna turn up here and, of course, Facebook! In the meantime, check out a mini-preview of who I spoke with below.

Emmy Award-Winning Producer Mark Burnett

As a correspondent for Mingle Media TV Network and for my weekly show Life After Kids, I had the pleasure of chatting with Emmy Award-winning producer, Mark Burnett, about many things and his new show, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” the bloggers’ blogger, Darren Rowse (@problogger), speaker and author of “Unmarketing,” Scott Stratten (@unmarketing), co-founder of Blog World Expo, Rick Calvert (@blogworld), social media expert and author, Mari Smith *@marismith) and the geeks’ geek and host of “This Week in Tech,” Leo LaPorte to name just a few. So please be patient, I have hours of footage to get through and edit and many hours of writing to do, but I guarantee that these are interviews with great information and well worth waiting for.

Plus, if you weren’t able to attend Blog World this year or maybe you missed a few of the panels, for the first time EVER the organizers are offering access to ALL the panels and keynote sessions online. Here’s the link for more information and to order!

Until the next time…ask yourself, “isn’t it time you followed your bliss?”

Blog World Expo Day One

Started the day with a cuppa joe and a livestream with Desiree Peeples aka @MommyReporter for her show on MingleMediaTV - Blog Builders!

Chatting with Tia Carrere

Life After Kids interviews Tia CarrereOn October 8, 2010, I was “following my bliss” as guest correspondent for MingleMediaTV at the The 10th Annual Malibu Family Wines Harvest and Crush Event benefiting City Hearts Organization-providing arts education to thousands of Los Angeles’ inner-city youth.

The event took place at the magnificent 1000 plus acre Saddle Rock Ranch, owned by winemaker and philanthropist, Robert Semler.  The event featured wine tastings from Semler’s signature and Saddle Rock wines, delectable dishes from local restaurants, luxury auctions, a foot spa, and a special tribute from “25 Artists Creating 25 Heart-themed Pieces to Celebrate 25 Years of City Hearts.” It was well-attended and everyone had a great time!

Here’s my chat with actress, Grammy award-winning recording artist and producer,  Tia Carrere about why she lent her support to this fabulous event and what she’s up to now.

Life After Kids Interviews Tia Carrere

Independence Day

Independence DayAs your children grew up and became more independent, did you find yourself holding on a bit tighter? And when they were finally out of the house, how did you deal with their departure, with a sense of dread or a burst of independent spirit?

In honor of July 4th, Independence Day, let’s think about how we dealt with our own independence and how it shaped our relationships with our spouses, significant others, friends or children!

Staying Connected

Perhaps the hardest part of the empty-nest syndrome was, for me, letting go of a routine of brief, but meaningful moments with your children.  Whether it was breakfast on the run, carpooling them to school or an urgent trip to the shopping mall for clothing that they grew out of over night.  You still had a consistent connection and the ability to know what was going on in their lives.

Now, you’re lucky if you get a phone call every few days and even then it’s interrupted by another call that is more important than you.  Certainly you know they need money when they linger on the phone and ask you all about your week, your day and how you are feeling!  In either case, neither is satisfying your parental need to know and feel connected.

How do you navigate the choppy waters of a parent-child connection when they’re on their own?  I have some ideas to share on the next edition of Life After Kids on Mingle Media TV Network!

How Empty is Your Nest?

Life After Kids
Please Join me for the debut of the LIVE Web Series LIFE AFTER KIDS this Sunday at 9P EDT/6p PDT on MingleMediaTV.

Sunday’s show will begin to explore what is known as empty-nest syndrome – the time when your child or children have grown, are no longer living home and have begun their own lives – very often not including “you.”

It doesn’t matter if you are a single parent, or a couple, this change in parental status can have profound effect on us,  for some it may be a traumatic time filled with loneliness and for others, it maybe the long awaited freedom to be an “adult” again.

I want to hear from you. What was your experience? How did it affect you? or your partner or spouse? What did you do to deal with it? I will share my experiences and I hope you will share yours.

Sunday is just the beginning of an exciting journey we can all take together to find and follow our bliss!  So, let’s start that conversation Sunday @6pmPDT/9pmEDT on MingleMediaTV!
